'Cycling is not only a dynamic and growing sport in SA; it is also, potentially, an affordable, sustainable and green solution to transport issues for a certain sector of the population. Our roads are often dangerous for motorists and doubly so for pedestrians and cyclists. Cycling as a sport demands that participants ride long distances to train and as such the roads become their sports arena. There isn’t as yet a culture of cycling support here as there is in Europe, and often cyclists and other road users are at loggerheads. There is blame on both sides as riders can be inconsiderate and motorists aggressive.'
'The difference here is that there is not much in the way of infrastructure, legislation or signage to direct and support cyclists in their use of the road. A National Awareness campaign that fosters better relations and understanding between all road users is a very welcome action.'
